International Competition of Romantic Music 2011
Dedicated to Franz Liszt

In 2011 American Protégé was celebrating the bicentennial of Franz Liszt with an International Competition of Romantic Music. The Competition was open to all instrumentalists (piano, piano duo, winds, strings, voice) of all nationalities and countries.

 

Franz Liszt is known not only as a great composer of the Romantic Era, but as an inventor of the piano recitals, piano virtuoso, teacher, arranger and conductor. Through his efforts, etudes, fantasies and rhapsodies became popular. Romantic music is easy to listen to and very approachable for any auditorium with or without special musical education. Until today Liszt remains one of the favorite composers for many young and professional performers.

 

The First and Second Place Winners Recitals took place at Weill Recital Hal at Carnegie Hall in New York City on

 

Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 1:30 PM  and on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 1:30 PM

 

Special prizes for the best performance of a piece by Liszt and Scholarships were awarded to several winners based on the judges recommendations.

 

Judges

Four qualified judges were evaluating the audition materials. Dr. Sophya Genis was invited as a Chairwoman of the Competition. A graduate of the Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music, Mrs. Genis holds a Doctor of Music Arts Degree. She studied piano with such renowned professors as Alexander Yoheles, Yakov Milstein and Yakov Zak.
